I am running for election to the position of Judge of Criminal Court for Knox County Division II. As you know, this position was held for 25 years by our beloved Ray Lee Jenkins. The next election cycle will determine who will serve out the remaining six years of the late Judge Jenkins’ term.
Judge Jenkins was a Republican. Early in his career he and some of his friends were activists in the effort to put Republicans in as many elected positions as possible. Our Governor, Governor Bredeson, has appointed Ken Irvine to serve as the interim judge until the next election is held. The primary will be in February and the General election will be in August of next year. Judge Irvine is a fine individual but he comes from the Other Party. It is my opinion that it is only fair and appropriate that the remainder of Judge Jenkins’ term be served by a Republican.
I am a Republican. I have run on the Republican ticket in four elections and have had no opposition in any of them. In addition to being a Republican, I also have a great deal of experience. I have served as one of your judges of General Sessions Court for the last 21 years. Eighty per cent of the work we do in General Sessions Court involves criminal law. I believe my experience of twenty-one years of serving as a judge makes me uniquely qualified to serve out the remaining six years of Judge Jenkins’ term.
When I started practicing law 31 years ago, all three criminal court judges were Republicans. Divisions I and III are now held by Democrats and we are in danger of losing Division II. Help me win this position back for the Republicans by supporting my candidacy for Judge of the Criminal Court for Knox County, Division II.
